Our Lead Transportation Planner conducts studies, prepares reports, and advises on feasibility, cost effectiveness, and regulatory conformance of long- and short-range strategic plans, proposals, special projects, transportation services or ongoing programs providing technical consultation and utilizing technical expertise. 

As a key member of the transportation team in Atlanta, Georgia, you will perform work which involves both conventional and unconventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, sometimes with complex features for which there may be no precedents. We will look to you to analyze transportation and mobility issues in metro and rural regions to recommend infrastructure modifications or innovative options for improved mobility.  You will meet with reviewers to obtain project approvals/permits and coordinate plan changes with engineers.  

Your expertise will be utilized to identify planning strategies using software to analyze data and assessing scenarios as well as performing spatial and GIS-based data analysis. 

You will be responsible for presentations, public facilitation and provide representation to governing jurisdictions and state agencies in the legislative and administrative approval of planning projects and programs. 

When you join us, you will work directly with potential and current clients to solicit and assess planning and multimodal transportation needs; prepare fee proposals, develop work plans, and coordinate planning efforts to support project management.  We will also look to you to identify new opportunities and participate in proposal development.

As a Senior Transportation Planner, you will have the opportunity to mentor less experienced professionals and help them develop their careers and achieve their goals.

Here’s what you’ll need:

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning or related field 
•    10 years’ experience in transportation planning with a capabilities in project management
•    Local to Atlanta, Georgia and ability to attend client and stakeholder meetings in-person 
•    Knowledge of computer software programs, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, econometric or transportation modeling, database management, or GIS
•    Ability to utilize computer systems as a tool to effectively manage projects.
•    Must be innovative, detail-oriented, experienced in highly visible projects
•    Capable of managing multiple, high-priority assignments
•    Strong interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships at various levels and to resolve problems
•    Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously
•    Ability to provide effective supervision and staff management
•    Familiarity with current industry regulations and standards
•    Ability to manage projects effectively and meet firm deadlines

Ideally, you’ll also have:
•    Previous experience working with Georgia DOT, cities, and counties in Georgia
•    Certified as an AICP, Professional Transportation Planner (PTP), or similar
•    Experience with comprehensive transportation plans for cities or counties
•    Experience with federally funded safety action plans or similar
