NASA JSC Engineering is seeking a passionate and highly motivated individual to fill the position of Senior Systems Engineer on the Pressurized Lunar Rover project. The candidate will join our team with JETS II Teammate company, McLaurin Aerospace. In this position you will work closely with Lead Systems Engineer and the Project Systems Engineering team as well as internal, external and international stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in systems engineering, system integration, risk management, and testing & verification. Flexibility will be key as this positions roles and responsibilities could evolve as the project moves through various lifecycle phases. The pressurized lunar rover project is part of NASA’s Artemis campaign to return humans to the lunar surface.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead an interdisciplinary team through all phases of the Systems Engineering “V”
  • Develop recommendations and plans for application of systems engineering principles (such as NASA NPR 7123) to the pressurized lunar rover project
  • Coordinate technical activities to anticipate and prevent problems, optimize requirements, and design solutions
  • Coordination of development and management of interfaces as well as integrated analyses and margins
  • Identify technical risks, develop risk mitigation strategies, and determine resource requirements
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, define individual and team goals, set priorities & deadlines, identify key stakeholders, clearly communicate requirements and needs
  • Represent the team and stakeholder interests at various boards and with both domestic and international customers
  • Act as interface for the management of test schedules and test definitions that satisfy project and program goals and requirements​
  • Perform other duties as required

Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate’s experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and may be expected to have a related master’s degree and normally possess 10-15 years of related experience
  • Minimum 10 years total experience with at least 5 years in systems engineering and integration roles
  • Experience with requirements development, design trades, risk analysis, and system analysis of space hardware
  • Five years’ of experience with certification of human spaceflight hardware
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Familiarity with industry standard software tools and programs SharePoint and Microsoft Office products

Requisition Preferences:

  • ​Experience in space flight systems engineering including the successful delivery of space flight hardware
  • Working knowledge of NASA, JSC, and ISS standard practices and requirements including safety, fault tolerance, and unique disciplines
  • Familiarity with NASA/JSC documentation databases and SharePoint sites as well as typical systems engineering products
  • Prior experience working with program-level review boards
  • ITAR/EAR requirements familiarity
  • Familiarity with systems engineering software tools and programs (Magic Draw, DOORS, or similar)
  • Ability to travel internationally​

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
