Jacobs has a great opportunity for a traffic engineer in our Dallas or Fort Worth, TX office with interest and skills in traffic operations; traffic design including traffic signal design, signing design and pavement marking design; ITS Design; Maintenance of Traffic (MOT); transportation planning; and traffic operations and safety analysis.

The candidate will participate in planning, budgeting and delivering traffic engineering projects including traffic operational analysis, traffic microsimulation models, roadway design, signal design, ITS design, signing and marking, and/or construction traffic control plans, etc.  Applicant will be expected to work closely with other members of the team, other Department leads and be flexible in meeting changing project needs. The candidate is expected to provide supervision, technical direction and mentoring to less experienced personnel. Our office provides support for other Jacobs offices and regions, so there is potential opportunity for short-term travel and work on major, exciting projects across the USA and internationally. 


Principal Responsibilities:

·         Responsible for performing transportation/traffic engineering planning and design

·         Function as a technical specialist formulating and developing advanced engineering concepts and techniques

·         Perform civil design calculations, sketches, drawings, technical comparisons and similar technical work as required by assignments.

·         Develop solutions to complex problems that require a high degree of innovation and ingenuity  

·         Participate in planning, cost development and management, and scheduling for assigned projects

·         Maintain effective communication with project team members and with clients

·         Research transit, traffic analysis, traffic operations, ITS and safety issues and works with City, State, and County officials.

·         Research design options and document

·         Demonstrate proficiency in using computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment, traffic analysis and simulation software, and other office production software to perform engineering tasks

Here’s what you’ll need:

·         Bachelor of Civil Engineering with a focus in Transportation/Traffic engineering discipline is required

·         Engineer in Training (EIT) or ability to obtain within 6 months.

 

Ideally, a preferred candidate would also have:

·         Master’s degree preferred

·         Previous internships or work experience in traffic engineering

·         Demonstrated experience with preparation of detailed design plans to state and local standards

·         Project experience and working knowledge using a variety of traffic manuals and traffic software

·         Preparation of technical reports

·         Previous work experience with TxDOT and other Texas municipalities

·         Previous experience with design software
